Seasonal Burn Crew Member
Responsibilities
The Burn Crew Member (BCM) will participate in preparing firelines, maintaining equipment, conducting prescribed burning, performing mop-up, post-burn monitoring, and other tasks assigned. They may also assist with invasive species treatments and hardwood reduction projects.
- Prepare firelines and maintain equipment
- Conduct prescribed burning and post-burn monitoring
- Perform other land management duties when conditions are not conducive to prescribed fire
- Operate various types of equipment including 4x4 trucks, ATVs, UTVs, chain saws, and leaf blowers
- Maintain accurate records of work time
- Work as a team player in a high-stress environment
- Build and maintain relationships in the professional fire community and local community
Requirements
This is a full-time, seasonal, hourly wage position with overtime applicable after the first 40 hours each week. Lodging is provided at either The Disney Wilderness Preserve or Tiger Creek Preserve.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record
- Ability to obtain Prescribed Fire Crew Member (RXCM) or Fire Fighter Type 2 (FFT2) qualifications
- Physical fitness standards as determined by the local Fire Program Manager
- Experience operating various types of equipment
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record
- Ability and willingness to follow instructions from colleagues
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Must be able to obtain Prescribed Fire Crew Member (RXCM) or Fire Fighter Type 2 (FFT2) qualifications, including Introduction to ICS (I-100), Human Factors on the Fire line (L-180), Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior (S-190), Firefighting Training (S-130), and one training burn. Must achieve physical fitness standards and operate various types of equipment. Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record. Desirable qualifications include S-212 Wildland Chainsaw Training or equivalent, multi-lingual skills, and multicultural or cross-cultural experience.

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $19.00 – $22.00 per hour.
