About the Role

The alterations department completes patchwork, hemming, tapering, and other customizations to our customers’ clothing.

Responsibilities

• Alters, repairs, or fits garments
• Fits garments on customers to determine required alterations
• Sews garments, using needles and thread, and sewing machines
• Measures parts, such as sleeves or pant legs, and marks or pin-folds alteration lines
• Takes up or lets down hems to shorten or lengthen garment parts
• Removes stitches from garments to be altered, using rippers or razor blades
• Makes garment style changes, such as tapering pant legs
• Reads paperwork to know what alterations to perform
• Enters complete work notes into the computer for customers’ orders
• Estimates the time frame of the alteration
• Sews on name tapes, patches, badge tabs, name tabs, and other style patchwork
• Communicates with customers
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• 1-2 years of industrial sewing experience
• 1-2 years of hemming experience
• Ability to read work orders and understand what needs to be completed
• Ability to complete work in a timely fashion
• Must work on-site
• Must be able to stand or sit for an entire shift
• Must be able to lift 30-pound boxes
• Ability to climb a small ladder, bend, reach, and squat
• Must be able to read and comprehend written/verbal orders
• Must be able to communicate efficiently in English
• Must be capable of taking only one meal period per day
• Must be able to work between the hours of 9 am–5 pm, Monday–Saturday
