About the Role
Direct and supervise all functions, duties, and activities for the Meat/Seafood department. Support the day-to-day operations while embracing the Customer 1st strategy to deliver excellent customer service. Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain a safe and clean environment to encourage customer return.
- Promote trust and respect among associates and communicate company, department, and job-specific information.
- Collaborate with associates and promote teamwork to achieve company and store goals.
- Set performance goals for the department and empower associates to meet or exceed targets.
- Develop adequate scheduling to manage customer volume throughout operating hours.
- Train and develop associates on job performance and participate in the performance appraisal process.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal laws, as well as company guidelines.
- Cut seafood to customers' requests using proper cutting equipment and offer product samples.
- Inform customers of meat/seafood specials and prepare foods according to temperature logs and cooking instructions.
- Develop and implement a department business plan to achieve desired results.
- Understand the store's layout and locate products efficiently.
- Create and execute sales promotions in partnership with store management and implement the period promotional plan.
- Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
- Monitor and control expenses for the department and maintain awareness of inventory/stocking conditions.
- Schedule daily, weekly, and monthly price changes by updating shelf tags and promotional signs.
- Ensure compliance with all country-of-origin labeling and regulations.
- Plan, organize, and supervise the inventory process, including training associates on inventory/stocking and Computer Assisted Ordering.
- Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines, ensuring proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained.
- Reinforce safety programs, comply with safety procedures, and report unsafe conditions to store management.
- Notify management of customer or employee accidents and report all safety risks, issues, or illegal activity (e.g., robbery, theft, or fraud).
- Manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner.
- Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
- Follow directions and seek assistance to resolve customer and business issues.
- Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and/or older adults.
Requirements
- Effective communication skills.
- Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction).
- Ability to handle stressful situations.
- Current food handlers permit (once employed).
- Adequate knife handling skills and knife speed.
Qualifications (Preferred)
- High school education or equivalent.
- Management experience.
- Knowledge of cutting, traying, wrapping, and labeling.
- Seafood experience.
- Retail experience.
- Second language (speaking, reading, and/or writing).
