About the role

The Seafood Buyer is responsible for purchasing, inventory control, and merchandising of all fresh and frozen seafood products at Plum Market. This role ensures that the seafood cases and displays are fully stocked, visually appealing, and reflect our standards for freshness, sustainability, and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Purchase and maintain fresh and frozen seafood inventory to ensure consistent availability and product rotation.
  • Maintain accurate pricing and signage throughout the seafood department.
  • Ensure seafood is stored, labeled, and displayed according to food safety and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with vendors to secure high-quality, sustainable products and manage timely deliveries.
  • Communicate new products and seasonal items to department team members and leadership.
  • Auxiliary tasks such as assisting with merchandising sets, case resets, and seasonal transitions.
  • Support the department with receiving, processing, and stocking seafood as needed.
  • Uphold Plum Market’s standards for safety, sanitation, and Guest engagement.

Requirements

  • 6+ months experience in seafood retail, buying, or procurement preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of seafood species, seasonality, sourcing standards, and storage requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and comfort with order/inventory management systems.
  • Strong communication and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to stand and walk for up to 4 hours without a break – we work on the floor and alongside our team.
  • Ability to bend and stoop to grasp objects, climb ladders, lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted, and push/pull carts weighing up to 100 lbs. unassisted.

  • Passion for fresh and frozen seafood, including sourcing, handling, and sustainability.
  • Organized, analytical, and capable of managing product flow in a high-volume retail setting.

Pay

Competitive holiday pay: Earn time and a half for working on five federally recognized holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, and Thanksgiving.
