About the role

Join the Amazon Opensearch Service team to build a cloud-scale log analytics and search platform that revolutionizes how users manage and derive insights from vast volumes of data. As part of this fast-growing AWS service, you’ll work in a startup-style environment with direct impact on a large number of AWS users. The team designs, develops, and operates software enabling customers to index, search, and analyze documents at scale in a secure, responsive, and reliable environment.

The Amazon Opensearch Service is a fully managed service delivering Opensearch’s easy-to-use APIs and real-time capabilities with predictable performance and seamless scalability for production workloads. You’ll tackle challenging problems in data storage, query optimization, JVM performance, security, machine learning, and distributed systems while contributing to open-source projects like Opensearch and Apache Lucene.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and support a world-class search platform serving individuals and businesses of all sizes.
  • Produce robust, efficient, and maintainable code in Java, Python, and C/C++.
  • Work at the core of Opensearch and Apache Lucene open-source software, contributing to these projects.
  • Solve complex problems in areas such as data storage, query optimization, JVM performance, security, and machine learning.
  • Challenge existing systems and explore improvements to meet evolving customer needs.
  • Apply expert knowledge in large-scale distributed system design and engineering best practices.
  • Set vision and objectives for Search Services aligned with customer needs and market opportunities.
  • Drive algorithm and architecture design, execute projects, and deliver results.
  • Invent the future of search and log analytics in the cloud.
  • Collaborate with a motivated, top-notch team to solve challenging problems in a fun, supportive environment.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 2+ years of non-internship experience in designing or architecting new and existing systems (design patterns, reliability, and scaling).
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.

Pay

Base salary ranges:

  • East Palo Alto, CA: $165,200.00 – $223,600.00 USD annually.
  • Santa Clara, CA: $165,200.00 – $223,600.00 USD annually.
