Scientist - Physical Properties

Long-term, full-time role at a global medical-device client in Jacksonville, FL.

About the role

Responsible for comprehensive analysis of lenses using advanced scientific techniques and supporting the routine evaluation of physical properties of new products and formulations.

Responsibilities

• Perform refractive-index measurement, mechanical-property assessment, contact-angle determination, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) for surface and bulk analyses, absorbance/transmission, optical-density measurement, gravimetric water-content assessment, surface-roughness evaluation, Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), pervaporation, Dynamic Vapor Sorption (DVS), oxygen-permeability testing, and microscopic visual inspection following validated analytical methods.
• Develop and implement new test methods and instrumentation; transfer knowledge to other teams as needed.
• Support method validation by conducting tests in accordance with specified protocol requirements.
• Conduct routine testing of solutions, including pH, conductivity, and osmolality analysis using USP or other validated test methods; perform verification/calibration procedures.
• Assist with competitor product inventory and testing; compile competitive testing information into a master database.
• Provide analytical support for stability, pre-clinical, clinical, and regulatory studies and respond to related inquiries.
• Maintain calibration status for laboratory equipment, including facilitating component calibration updates and supporting system change requests.
• Contribute to the qualification of new instrumentation.
• Participate in guided development of analytical methods aligned with team priorities.

Requirements

• BS in Chemistry or related field (Engineering, Microscopy) with a minimum of 1 year of industry lab work experience.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Understanding of data integrity, data quality, and data management principles.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Experience with GxP, GMP, GLP, or regulated environments preferred.

Pay

$23.00 – $28.00 per hour, based on experience.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday (day shift). Duration: one year, likely to extend.
