About the role

This is an entry-level opportunity to support the Process R&D efforts at the Florence, SC facility. You will join a team of synthetic organic chemists to support manufacturing of pharmaceutical ingredients. Many of our products are already in the market serving patients. We work on a variety of projects for existing and new clients in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a good work-and-life balance.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, generate, and validate new methodologies used to manufacture pharmaceutical intermediates and final products.
• Participate in technical discussions with clients and colleagues.
• Engage in technology transfer and manufacturing support.
• Develop remediation to address issues.
• Develop chemical processes to synthesize drug intermediates and APIs that meet or exceed client quality requirements.
• Collect process data through laboratory experiments with accurate, detailed documentation for process evaluation, development, and troubleshooting.
• Record and analyze scientific data/observations in detail; summarize and interpret process data to draw conclusions and write updates/reports.
• Draft and review Operating Instructions, Deviations, Change Controls, and Investigative documentation.
• Provide timely technical support for scale-up production, quality, and additional area needs.
• Research industry practices and processes and apply to innovative development internally and for client products.
• Handle project timelines and results.
• Demonstrate proficient analytical knowledge for compound identification and structure elucidation, including NMR, IR, HPLC, GC, and MS.

Requirements

• PhD in Chemistry or commensurate experience.
• 0-2 years of experience.
• Good knowledge and understanding of chemistry and analytical instrumental technologies.
• Proficiency with HPLC, GC, LC/MS, and Dissolution techniques.
• Good problem-solving skills and logical approach to solving scientific problems.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written).

Environmental Conditions

• Adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Safety Standards.
• Fluctuating temperatures (hot/cold).
• Laboratory and office setting.
• Required use of PPE: safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs, safety shoes, safety apron, organic respirator occasionally.
• Exposure to strong odors (chemical, lubricants, biological products).
• Work with hazardous/toxic materials.

Physical Requirements

• Ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination to move about office and lab locations.
• Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch periodically for prolonged periods of time.
• Manipulation (lift, carry, move) of light to medium weights of 10-35 pounds.
• Arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp and type for prolonged periods.
• Visual acuity to use a keyboard, computer monitor, operate equipment, and read materials for prolonged periods.
• Ability to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear for prolonged periods.
