Scientist I, Tissue Material Sciences (Device Biology Research)
About the role
The Technical expert will develop and execute in vivo models, as well as perform a range of cell and tissue-based in vitro assays to support the development and differentiation of implantable biomaterials in support of Allergan Aesthetics' Medical Device franchises. Techniques employed will include intradermal and subcutaneous injection in small or large animals, 3D imaging, histology, microscopy, as well as common practices in cell and molecular biology, such as cell culture, PCR, and ELISA.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute in vivo and in vitro assays to evaluate the tissue response to implantable biomaterials (60%)
- Analysis and interpretation of results including documentation and preparing summaries of results and methods (30%)
- Innovate and implement new experimental protocols (10%)
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in a scientific field (Biology, Bioengineering, Chemistry or related) plus 5 years post-graduate experience in industry OR Master with equivalent experience of at least 2 years.
- Experience with animal and tissue studies, including in vivo animal handling/surgeries is required.
- Experience using various cell and molecular biology techniques including mamalian cell culture to examine cell/tissue and biomaterial interactions is a plus.
- Some experience with skin biology and/or ex vivo skin models is desirable.
Qualifications
- Ability to conduct and interpret scientific experiments, providing suggestions for additional experiments, including design and development of new assays, prototypes and methods under supervision.
- Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including analysis and presentation of data to internal teams.
- Self-motivated; ability to execute with limited supervision and direction. Can work independently or part of a team.
- Knowledge of Good Documentation Practices, maintain accurate Lab Notebook & related documentation.
- Troubleshoot experiments, identify and solve elementary problems in experimental designs.
- Contribute ideas and suggestions to improve standard laboratory techniques, experimentation efficiency, improve protocols, processes and equipment.
- Understanding of statistical principles is desirable.
- Proficient in required software including Microsoft Office Suite, statistical analysis tools (such as Graphpad Prism), image analysis experience is a plus.
