Scientist I, Developmental Morphogenesis
About the role
The Allen Institute’s Cell Science Accelerator aims to create a holistic framework to predict how cells self‑organize into complex communities and tissues, enabling programmable synthetic tissue for drug‑response studies. As a Scientist in Developmental Morphogenesis, you will join a multidisciplinary team that leverages stem cell engineering, high‑content imaging, image quantification, and data‑driven machine learning to make multicellular behavior predictable and programmable.
Responsibilities
- Identify, develop, and pursue ambitious questions underlying cell fate and cell morphodynamics during tissue morphogenesis.
- Scientifically supervise scientists and subject matter experts as appropriate for specific projects.
- Foster a culture of learning and knowledge sharing within the team and across the Institute.
- Contribute to the mission of making multicellular behavior predictable and programmable through stem cell engineering, high‑content imaging, image quantification, and machine learning approaches.
Requirements
- PhD degree in biological science (e.g., cell biology, developmental biology, biophysics, bioengineering), physical science, or a related science/engineering field.
- Established expertise in developmental morphogenesis with publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
Qualifications
- No more than three years of direct experience after award of PhD.
- Extensive experience with 3D, live fluorescent imaging modalities.
- Experience working in 3D stem cell models.
- Experience in tissue mechanobiology.
- Knowledge of gene regulatory networks dynamics underlying differentiation.
- Experience in image analysis.
- Experience working in dynamic, fast‑paced research environments with a start‑up and growth mindset.
- Strong collaboration skills, including working with program managers and diverse subject matter experts.
- Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
