About the role
KBI Biopharma is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Analytical Scientist to join our Analytical and Formulation Sciences (AFS) team in Louisville, CO. This role is ideal for a scientist with deep expertise in protein analytics, ideally with a background in mass spectrometry and protein structural characterization. You will serve as a subject matter expert (SME), driving innovation and excellence in analytical testing to support client programs from early development through late-phase and commercialization for biotherapeutics.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates expertise in the execution and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project goals.
- Expertise in mass spectrometry techniques including intact mass and subunit analysis, reduced and non-reduced peptide mapping, and PTM and sequence variant analysis.
- Significant experience is desired in optimizing multiple chromatographic modalities relevant to mass spectrometry, including SEC, RP, HILIC, and CEX.
- Familiarity with Agilent, Waters, and Thermo LC-MS systems.
- Occasional recourse to non LC-MS methods including capillary electrophoresis (SDS-CGE and icIEF), UV/Fluorescence, compendial methods, and biophysical characterization techniques on proteins (CD, FTIR, DLS, SEC-MALS, calorimetry).
- Design and strategically execute analytical experiments in support of biotherapeutics development, particularly qualification/validation and stability studies.
- Generate high-quality documentation suitable for publication and regulatory review, including technical documents and analytical test methods.
- Act as SME on client programs, providing technical guidance and representing KBI in client interactions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with rapid analytics, process development, bioassay, and program management teams.
- Mentor and train junior scientists and associates.
- Perform peer review of data and reports related to method development, qualification, and validation, as well as characterization and stability study reports.
- Manage timelines and resources to meet project milestones and proactively advise leadership on program status and technical challenges.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related field with 0-3 years experience; M.S. with 3-7 years experience; B.S. degree with >7 years experience.
- Adaptability to changing priorities and business needs.
- Adherence to statutory and company safety requirements.
- Strong understanding of protein structure and stability and degradation pathways leading to PTMs.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to present complex data to diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in scientific software and data analysis tools (e.g. Excel, Prism).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

$84,000-$115,000
