Scientist, Biology-Discovery
Join the protein expression and purification team in the department of Infectious Diseases and Vaccines (IDVAX). This team provides protein vaccine candidates and critical assay reagents for IDVAX programs, supporting target validation and identification in early discovery.
About the role
The primary focus for this position will be small-scale (30 ml culture) screening of reagent and vaccine antigens and large-scale (5 L culture) purification of recombinant proteins and nanoparticles. You will work closely with the protein expression group, collaborate with the protein characterization group, and engage with IDVAX program teams.
Responsibilities
- Operate automated, tip-based chromatography systems and research-scale FPLC protein purification chromatography.
- Apply affinity, charge-based, and size exclusion separation techniques.
- Follow SOPs and develop purification strategies for novel proteins.
- Perform protein characterization techniques and assays, including Bradford protein quantitation, UV-VIS spectroscopy, SDS-PAGE, and Western blotting.
- Prepare buffers, maintain purification instruments, sanitize chromatographic columns, and keep detailed notebooks.
- Prepare reports and maintain inventory.
- Collaborate effectively both independently and with team members.
Requirements
- BS (with 2+ years of post-graduation work experience) or MS (with 1+ year of graduate or post-graduation laboratory experience) in biology, chemistry, or another scientific field. Experience can be academic or industry-based.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
- Interest in scientific fields related to drug discovery.
