About the role

The Academic Research Scientist functions as a highly skilled contributor/researcher with significant authorship on publications and advanced knowledge of laboratory and experimental platforms to advance basic and/or translational research programs. This role includes leadership responsibilities, overseeing quality and training of other team members.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and conduct research experiments.
• Apply expert knowledge and skills specific to the related program and advanced methods of analyzing data from experimental platforms.
• Assist in grant and other funding applications; may lead own research projects or have full responsibilities for specific areas of a program with faculty director approval.
• Serve as principal investigator on funded (grant) proposals with approval of the responsible Emory faculty director.
• Conduct literature reviews.
• Design air pollution exposure assessment and environmental epidemiological studies.
• Lead manuscript and grant proposal development.
• Manage the progress and budget of research projects.
• Report research findings at academic conferences.
• Perform other responsibilities as required.

Requirements

• PhD and two years of professional-level experience in a technical or research lab, or
• Master’s degree and four years of professional-level experience in a technical or research lab, or
• Bachelor’s degree and six years of professional-level experience in a technical or research lab.
• Laboratory experience must align with the area of assignment.
• Internship or pre-degree experience is not eligible for meeting the work experience requirement.

Qualifications

• PhD in environmental health sciences, epidemiology, environmental sciences, or related fields (preferred).
• At least five years of research experience after PhD (preferred).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills (preferred).

Schedule

Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work-from-home options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to the employee.
