Scientific Manager, Translational Biology, CVRM

The CVRM (Cardiovascular, Renal, and Metabolism) Translational Biology group within Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED) seeks a motivated individual to lead pharmacology efforts, drive drug discovery, and design mechanistic studies to characterize compounds and their impact on physiology and pathophysiology. You will evaluate literature and novel assays to ensure project success while working closely with a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide scientific and technical hands-on support for research involving in vivo and ex vivo studies in animal models of cardiovascular, renal, obesity, and metabolic conditions to progress novel drug candidates into clinical development.
• Plan and execute experiments, develop protocols, document data, troubleshoot problems, interpret results, and communicate findings.
• Advise on technical or project strategy and mentor junior team members to enhance scientific and technical proficiency.
• Manage studies performed at CROs, evaluate data, develop technical documents, and assist with regulatory submissions.
• Collaborate within multidisciplinary project teams and communicate lab activities, timelines, and results effectively.

Qualifications

• PhD in Pharmacology, Biology, or a related field with 3+ years of relevant post-graduate experience.
• Expertise in the cardio-metabolic disease field with a strong in vivo background.
• Hands-on experience with cardiovascular models (e.g., heart and kidney ischemia reperfusion injury, transverse aortic constriction) and phenotyping (e.g., echocardiography, heart catheterization).
• Passion for hands-on research and leading from the bench.
• Ability to multitask, contribute to multiple projects, and solve challenging problems with creative approaches.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

Preferred Experience

• Rodent surgeries (beyond cardiovascular), ex vivo experiments, and isolation of primary cells.
• Prior experience in a biotech or pharmaceutical industry setting, understanding drug discovery and development timelines.

Pay

The expected salary range for this position in South San Francisco, CA is $115,900 to $215,300. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and company performance.
