About the role

The Scientific Director of Epidemiology will oversee the team of Research Scientists/Research Associates and their activities, including awarded projects and commercial activities. This role involves collaborating with colleagues in Biostats, Non-Interventional Studies, Scientific Management, and Business Operations teams.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively lead the Epidemiology team to ensure projects are scientifically rigorous, address client needs, and are delivered on time and on budget.
  • Develop and implement business strategies to improve commercial activities with state-of-the-art processes.
  • Assist teams in troubleshooting issues, resolving conflicts, and reaching consensus with stakeholders.
  • Provide epidemiologic leadership and training to produce high-quality scientific products.
  • Coach and mentor the team, establishing clear expectations regarding responsibilities, goals, and behaviors.
  • Develop and manage staff through hiring, performance management, talent development, and accountability.
  • Maintain close working relationships with cross-functional colleagues in Go-to-Market, Biostatistics, Non-Interventional Studies, Scientific Management, and Business Operations.
  • Represent the Epidemiology Department at internal leadership meetings and external professional, scientific meetings and forums.
  • Engage directly with senior pharmaceutical executives in client management and consulting activities.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree (PhD, MD, MPH, or PharmD) in a scientific discipline. A clinical background should be supplemented with advanced quantitative training (e.g., MPH or MS in a relevant field).
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in observational studies research, with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role, including at least 5 years within a pharmaceutical or consulting company.

Skills

  • Broad experience in quantitative methods in health services research, with a focus on the design of non-interventional studies and data analysis using observational retrospective and prospective data.
  • Strong understanding of relevant methodology and statistics.
  • Deep knowledge of healthcare research principles and practical research implementation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively on cross-functional teams.

Pay

The estimated salary range for this position based in Massachusetts is $225,000.00–$250,000.00. This position may also be eligible for a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and individual performance.

Schedule

Standard office schedule (Monday–Friday).
