Science Teacher - Cabarrus YDC
About the role
The Department of Public Safety's mission is to safeguard and preserve the lives and property of the people of North Carolina through preparation, prevention, and protection with integrity and honor. This position is a 12 month position within Cabarrus Youth Development Center teaching Science courses to students in grades 6-12.
Responsibilities
- Planning lessons based on the NC Standards and student’s individual learning needs.
- Ensuring success with all students while providing appropriate and engaging activities to teach concepts.
- Providing research-based strategies and interventions to provide an appropriate education for all students.
- Utilizing data to inform all instructional activities based on NC Standards, implementing IEPs, and keeping all student records up to date.
- Serving as a member of the interdisciplinary team to plan for student services and treatment.
- Keeping all student records, exceptional children's program, and student progress up to date.
Requirements
- A valid North Carolina teacher license, "A" or "M", with teaching certification in the area of Science (middle school) or Science (high school).
- A four-year college degree from an accredited post-secondary education institution.
Qualifications
- Experience providing effective instruction to meet the needs of students with diverse needs.
- Experience in creating a safe environment for students utilizing behavioral management techniques.
- Experience in creating lessons that coincide with Common Core State Standards and NC Essential Skills in order to improve student achievement.
Skills
- Knowledge of NC Standards and NC Essential Skills.
- Ability to create engaging and effective lesson plans.
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Pay
Salary is based on the NC Teaching Salary Schedule plus a 6% supplement.
Schedule
This is a full-time position with work hours for this position being Monday-Friday, 7AM-4:30PM.
