SCIENCE TEACHER (6-12)

Palm Shores Behavioral Health Center offers intensive residential psychiatric services for adolescents including behavioral, emotional, and psychiatric interventions. Our treatment philosophy is based on trauma-informed care principles and offers distinct progressive phases of care. The Hospital/Homebound school within the facility contracts with the Manatee County school district to provide a small classroom educational environment to residential patients.

Responsibilities

• Use knowledge of student development to be flexible and responsive to student learning by adjusting lessons, responding to individual student needs, and persisting in providing a variety of approaches when students have difficulties.
• Maintain a 4:1 student-to-staff ratio for behavior support in the classroom with additional support from on-site psychiatrists, a board-certified behavior analyst, therapists, and a full medical team.
• Follow required state and county rules and regulations for a Hospital/Homebound site.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from a fully accredited college or university.
• Florida Teaching Certification in Science (required).
• ESE (Exceptional Student Education) certification required or ability to become certified within 6 months of hire.
• Ability to work with multi-level/multi-grade students in a small class environment.
• Computer literacy.
• Stable emotional makeup required to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
• Pass a Level 2 background check and pre-employment drug screen.

Schedule

School Hours: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm

Blended learning atmosphere with an average classroom size of 16 students.
