Science/Math Teacher/Tutor for QLC (9th-12th )

Summary or Purpose

Under the direction of the Coordinator of the Qatqiġvik Learning Center, the teacher is responsible for the implementation of research-based instructional strategies that direct the learning process and achievement of assigned students by developing, nurturing, and sustaining a school and classroom culture conducive to student learning. All instruction provided for students will be individualized, addressing differences in learning style, rate of learning, level of maturation, and level of achievement to inform instructional decision-making. Teachers will vary materials, rate of instruction, and methodology based on frequent assessment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain competency in subject matter areas of certification and assignment. Training will be provided for subjects outside of the teacher’s area of preparation.
• Employ appropriate methods of assessment to identify student proficiency levels and plan short and long-range programs to accommodate those needs using student achievement data (formative and summative) to determine instructional effectiveness.
• Strive for harmonious and cooperative interpersonal relationships with students, parents, supervisors, administrators, staff, and community members, demonstrating flexibility, openness, warmth, genuineness, supportiveness, and cooperativeness.
• Promote and support School District Goals as defined in the Board of Education Strategic Plan.
• Develop an awareness of local culture and provide instruction that is bicultural or multicultural, responding to diverse community interests and needs.
• Abide by the code of ethics and professional teaching standards adopted by the Professional Teaching Practice Commission of the State.
• Write and submit weekly lesson plans to the Coordinator of QLC and maintain digital copies throughout the year.
• Adhere to all District policies and regulations.
• Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Education required; Master's Degree preferred.
• Alaska Teacher Certificate or Type M Certificate required or ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe.
• CTE experience preferred.
• Knowledge and experience with ACE, PBIS, and Restorative Circles preferred.
• Inupiaq, Language, History, and Culture experience preferred.

• Regularly required to travel within and outside the North Slope Borough School District, including willingness and ability to fly in small and large commuter planes.
