Science/Engineering Project Leader 1/2
About the role
This position will be filled at either the Science/Engineering Project Leader 1 or Science/Engineering Project Leader 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Responsibilities
- Translate programmatic requirements into executable shop-floor plans and coordinate cross-functional production activities to ensure safe, secure, and timely execution.
- Work closely with manufacturing, engineering, quality, safety, and program management organizations to drive alignment between production commitments and operational capability.
Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute project plans, work breakdown structures, and work packages.
- Experience managing scope, schedule, and deliverables in a production or technical environment.
- Knowledge of engineering or manufacturing principles.
- Strong interpersonal and coordination skills, with ability to build relationships across organizations.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams.
- Understanding of safety, security, and quality requirements in a regulated environment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance which typically requires US citizenship.
Qualifications
- Education/Experience at Science/Engineering Project Leader 1: Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering related field from an accredited institution and 2 years directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
- Education/Experience at Science/Engineering Project Leader 2: Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering related field from an accredited institution and 5 years directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. An advanced degree is typically expected.
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage moderately complex technical or production projects.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams in a manufacturing or operations environment.
- Advanced understanding of project management methodologies and change control.
- Prominent ability to negotiate scope, priorities, and resources across organizations.
- Proven ability to identify production or readiness risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Experience in manufacturing readiness, production operations, or enterprise production environments.
- Experience working in a national laboratory or federal environment.
- Knowledge of DOE production or project management requirements.
- Experience using project management and scheduling tools.
- Experience managing multi-million-dollar production or technical efforts.
- Experience working within highly regulated, safety-critical production environments.

Pay
- Science/Engineering Project Leader 1: $87,800 - $143,000
- Science/Engineering Project Leader 2: $106,400 - $176,000
Schedule
The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
