Sci Tech (Laboratory Animals)

About the role

The position ensures the humane care and treatment of laboratory animals.

Responsibilities

  • Daily checks and treatment of animals marked as sick by staff
  • Maintaining records of sick animals, treatments ordered by the attending veterinarian
  • Notifications of principal investigators and their staff
  • Monitoring animal room conditions as related to animal health and well-being
  • Screens rodent colonies for murine pathogens
  • Collections and processing of samples for microbiology, serology, parasitology and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
  • Collects tissue samples during necropsies to ascertain cause of disease
  • Provides technical assistance to research laboratories upon request

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biological Science Preferred
  • One year experience in biological sciences required
  • General experience working with Filemaker Pro preferred
