About the role
The Bus Aide ensures students board, travel, and depart the bus safely while maintaining a secure environment and allowing the Driver to focus on operating the vehicle.
Responsibilities
- Safely assist students as needed, including helping them enter and exit the vehicle, using lap and shoulder belts, and securing them in car seats and booster seats (lifting may be required).
- Monitor student behavior, provide guidance, and report unsafe or inappropriate conduct to management; implement corrective actions as directed.
- Communicate effectively and clearly in English with students, parents, teachers, and Van Pool staff.
- Use Van Pool’s two-way radio system with strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Safely install car seats and booster seats.
- Follow written and verbal directions from supervisors.
- Work effectively with school-age children with special needs.
Requirements
- Age 18 or older.
- Ability to pass a background check, CORI/SORI, and drug screen.
- Effective communication in English (spoken and written).
Schedule
- 20–25 hours per week.
- Split shifts (e.g., 5:30 AM–9:00 AM and 1:00 PM–5:00 PM; exact hours depend on assigned route).
Pay
$18 per hour.
