About the role
Jumoke Academy seeks a full time certified Social Worker for the upcoming school year. The position includes planning and development, service to students, parents, teachers, and the community, professional development, and program evaluation.
Responsibilities
- Planning and Development: Assisting in the formulation of administrative procedures, policies, and curriculum; developing school social worker objectives; and improving service quality based on assessed needs.
- Service to Students: Serving on student support teams and special education committees; providing individual or group counseling; encouraging and assisting families in accessing community services; and facilitating communication between parents and schools.
- Services to Parents: Assisting parents in preventing problems and understanding their children’s issues through home visits, group counseling, parent training, and referrals to community services.
- Services to Teachers: Collaborating with teachers to address student problems, planning educational prescriptions, and involving community agencies in remediation efforts.
- Services to the Community: Explaining school programs and student problems to individual and community groups; assisting community agencies in understanding student clients.
- Professional Development: Attending and participating in educational conferences and workshops relevant to school social work.
- Program Evaluation: Maintaining records of services provided; documenting social histories, adaptive behaviors, differential diagnoses, truancy reports, and reporting to appropriate agencies.
Requirements
- Master's degree in School Social Work
- Valid Connecticut Certification in school social work
- Successful experience as a school social worker
- Previous counseling experience
- Specific knowledge and expertise in personality theory, counseling theory/practices, individual/group theory/practices, special/exceptional student staffing procedures, federal/state/local laws regarding school practices, and mental health/agency experience with children
