School Social Worker

Supervisor: Dr. Bruce Copeland, Coordinator of School Social Work. Full-time, 11-month position starting immediately.

Salary

$69,850 – $112,220. If also a licensed clinical social worker: $73,343 – $117,831.

Responsibilities

• Assessment/Evaluation
  • Provides in-home psychosocial assessments.
  • Serves on multidisciplinary team(s) to address needs of students with or without disabilities.
• Consultation
  • Contributes special knowledge of human behavior and relationships to staff.
  • Consults with parents regarding ways they can help their child become effective in school.
• Intervention
  • Provides crisis intervention services.
  • Provides direct services to students and parents.
• Coordination/Liaison
  • Serves as liaison between school, families and community agencies.
• Planning/Preparation
  • Assists the school in planning programs that prevent, reduce or alleviate situations which interfere with the learning process of students.
• Administration/Management
  • Organizes time, resources, and services to meet workload demands.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and punctual records.
• Professional Responsibilities/Development
  • Abides by NASW’s Professional Code of Ethics.

Requirements

• Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Pupil Personnel Services License with an endorsement in School Social Work (eligibility: earned a master’s of social work degree with a minimum of 60 graduate-level semester hours; or earned an advanced standing master’s of social work degree with a minimum of 30 graduate-level semester hours).
• Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) is preferred.
• Ability to analyze and interpret information to make recommendations regarding needs for services.
• Ability to communicate effectively with parents, students, school personnel and resource persons in the community, and mediate differences between family members and school personnel.
• Ability to prioritize and manage time.
• Provide own transportation and maintain a valid driver’s license.
