School Social Worker
Qualifications
Master’s in Social Work~Clinical License
500+ clock hours of a supervised social work practicum
At least 1 year of experience as a school social worker with direction from a fully approved social worker
Experience working with school age students
Professional tact, diplomacy and presentation with administrators, staff, teachers, students, parents and community members
Competency in oral and written communications
Has undergone a physical examination, by a licensed physician, that documents capability to perform required duties
Has an electronic fingerprint clearance from a criminal history record check
Responsibilities
- Performs casework service with individual students to correct those personal, social, or emotional maladjustments related to their educational and social progress.
- Collaborates with counseling department colleagues, regarding grade level programming and planning.
- Collaborates with other school personnel in gathering and giving information, and in establishing and planning for respective roles in the modification of student behavior.
- Performs casework service with parents as an integral part of helping students by increasing their understanding of how to constructively participate in resolving a student problem(s), and with sharing of own knowledge of appropriate available resources.
- Makes home visits for the purpose of gathering helpful background information related to the student.
- Aids students with their adjustment to school.
- Provides individual or small group counseling sessions for At-Risk identified youth as needed.
- Provides key positive behavioral instruction in classrooms to support building-wide PBIS processes.
- Attends MTSS meetings when invited for specific students.
- Encourages educational success through interaction and mentoring of identified at-risk students.
- Maintains records of daily schedule for audit purposes.
