School Social Worker
This position is a one-year-only contract with a 9.5-month (200-day) work year and full-time employment (1.0 FTE). Salary follows the Teacher Salary Schedule with lane placement A-G based on qualifications. About the Role
School Social Workers provide a continuum of programs, services, and resources within the school setting to support district educational goals and objectives through Social Emotional Learning.
Responsibilities
- Provide mental health counseling services and interventions with individuals and small groups, within general education and special education settings.
- Teach Social Emotional Learning (SEL) strategies in school-wide, classroom, small group settings, and/or special education settings.
- Provide support services to meet student IEP goals.
- Provide opportunities for education and career awareness, exploration, and planning.
- Identify behavioral needs of students through assessment, intervention, and planning.
- Participate in crisis management and intervention for students due to behavior, suicide, loss, and trauma.
- Assist and support staff and families with student crisis situations.
- Facilitate a link between home, school, and community resources.
- Provide behavioral interventions in a collaborative setting.
- Build positive understanding of cultural diversity while establishing inclusive relationships with students, families, staff, and members of the community.
- Advocate for the needs of underrepresented populations.
- Attend and participate in meetings involving all tiered levels of support.
- Document and analyze data to track student progress on behavioral goals.
- Adhere to the National Association of Social Workers Professional Code of Ethics.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Requires a Utah State Board of Education (USBE) cleared criminal background check.
- Requires one of the following:
- a valid Professional Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with a School Social Worker License Area of Concentration;
- a valid license issued by the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or a Certified Social Worker (CSW);
- an equivalent license in another state or country; or
- verification of enrollment or completion of an accredited Masters of Social Work program prior to the date of hire that will result in one of the licenses listed above.
New program graduates who have not yet received their license may upload a conferral letter from their university program in lieu of their license. This letter must include the anticipated date of graduation and the specific areas in which the applicant will be licensed.

Working Environment
- Work takes place in a typical school environment.
- Supervision of students requires both indoor and outdoor responsibilities (e.g., recess duty, gymnasium activities, etc.) in all types of weather and air quality.
- Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to speak and/or hear.
- Frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, and crouch.
- Occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel objects and must occasionally climb or balance.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
