About the Role
The Youth Development Specialist 20 ensures facility and child safety, administrative compliance, programming, and childcare operations. The role focuses on delivering targeted services in a safe, supportive environment to help youth achieve three priority outcomes: Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Positive Citizenship.
Responsibilities
- Facility and Child Safety
- Adhere to all organizational health and safety policies and implement safety practices at the assigned site.
- Take necessary precautions to protect members, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Follow facility maintenance protocols to ensure compliance.
- Report incidents and complete documentation within required timelines.
- Maintain discipline and de-escalate conflicts between members or others.
- Obtain and renew CPR and First Aid certification by the deadline.
- Administrative Compliance
- Complete all required reports and administrative duties on time.
- Collect and manage required data for internal and external reporting, ensuring accuracy.
- Ensure effective completion of all assessment and measurement activities for programs.
- Comply with all administrative policies, procedures, processes, and controls.
- Ensure accurate and timely collection and review of membership applications.
- Complete paperwork, reports, and data entry accurately and on time.
- Utilize all BGCGTC communication tools regularly and effectively.
- Programming
- Oversee assigned programming and activities.
- Ensure quality programming and activities using YPQ techniques.
- Promote and maintain a culture of safety in program areas.
- Manage assigned special programs and initiatives.
- Childcare Operations
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Enforce all security, safety, and health protocols.
- Manage front door traffic efficiently and effectively.
- Ensure members are checked in/out properly using childcare management systems.
- Follow all licensing requirements mandated by the State of Texas.
- Relationships
- Serve as a positive role model for youth.
- Maintain emotional control and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Represent the Boys & Girls Club in a positive manner.
- Attendance
- Regular attendance is required; arrive on time, work scheduled hours/shift, and leave at the scheduled time.
- Complete all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Education and Work Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.
- Minimum 6 months of experience working with youth.
- Qualifications
- Ability to work during program hours.
- Ability to be a positive role model.
- Ability to establish rapport and build relationships.
- Ability to relate to at-risk youth.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Must be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certification.
- Must pass agency background screens and drug screen at any time.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to facilitate, teach, or instruct.
- Bilingual.
- Currently certified in CPR/First Aid.
- Knowledge of program areas such as healthy lifestyles, culture and arts, academics, social development, and teen interests.
- Work experience with or program knowledge of the Boys & Girls Club Movement (national and/or local Club).

- Seldom required to remain in a stationary position.
- Frequently move about the facility to interact with members and staff.
- Occasionally operate a computer and other office equipment (e.g., copy machine, scanner, printer).
- Frequently communicate with staff, members, and parents for regular business operations.
- Seldom move boxes or other items weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Occasional use of software and computer applications for business functions.
- Occasionally concentrate on reviewing and entering information into a computer.
- Ability to understand, remember, and communicate routine, factual information.
- Ability to organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology.
- Ability to apply common sense in performing job duties.
- Ability to understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic (add, subtract, multiply, divide) and record, balance, and check results for accuracy.
- Work Environment
- Performed in Boys & Girls Club facilities similar to youth recreational centers, community centers, public housing facilities, or local school sites.
- Noise level is usually loud, and at times moderate or very loud.
- Work sites are located in low-income areas, challenging neighborhoods, and growth neighborhoods.
- May require working with challenging youth and family members, speaking with or assisting upset parents/guardians, and handling emotional outbursts from youth or their family members.
- May occasionally work in inclement weather.
- Constant supervision of youth/members.
- May be exposed to infectious diseases; must follow safety protocols.
