Disabilities on Caseload: Primarily OHI, Learning Disabilities, Autism, Language Impairment
Number of Students on Caseload: Fluid - however serving about 10-15 at any given time
Services are primarily provided inside general education setting
M-F Role Overview
A special education teacher creates and fosters learning environments for children with special learning requirements. They work with students who have special needs in their regular classroom or a separate, designated classroom. The role of the resource teacher is to assist the class teacher and to provide additional one-to-one support for children with moderate learning difficulties.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct/indirect instructional support in a positive, structured learning environment
Adapt teaching methods (e.g., multi-sensory techniques, repetition) to meet diverse needs
Develop and implement IEPs, collaborating with parents, administrators, and related service providers
Modify curricula and employ assistive technologies to promote academic, social-emotional, and functional growth
Teach socially acceptable behaviors using positive behavioral support systems
Monitor progress and communicate regularly with families to align priorities
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in special education or related field
Valid Maryland SPED Teaching License
