School Resource Officer (DCJS L.E. Certified)

What You’ll Do

• Law Enforcement and Safety: Handle all calls for service from the school, coordinate responses, ensure safety of school administrators during incidents involving weapons, controlled substances, or risky student behavior, provide information on crimes or leads to investigative units, and stay informed about investigations involving students from the assigned school.
• Liaison and Communication: Provide information to students and school personnel on matters related to law enforcement, adhere to the MOU with Fredericksburg City Public Schools, stay informed about other law enforcement units' services to the school, and ensure seamless communication and collaboration.
• Threat Assessment and Crime Prevention: Monitor students identified as subjects of concern, contribute to creating a safer school environment, and collaborate with school administrators to address issues related to school crime and disorder, working with other City departments and community resources.
• Community Engagement and Support: Assist in problem-solving to address school crime, promote and enrich the lives of youth through law-related teaching and mentoring, and work effectively with diverse groups of youth, parents, teachers, and school administrators.

Minimum Qualifications

• VA DCJS Certified law enforcement officer.
• No more than two moving violations within previous 24 months.
• No current or previous revocations of suspension of license within previous 60 months due to a moving violation.
• Undergo a background investigation including fingerprint-based criminal history records inquiries to both the CCRE and FBI.
• Undergo a physical examination, subsequent to a conditional offer of employment.
• Polygraph Examination.
• Must complete Lawfit® course in 1 minute 36 seconds.
