School Resource Officer
About the role
The Commerce City Police Department seeks POST Certified Police Officers to join the Youth Services Unit. The department emphasizes providing a safe environment for residents and businesses, and values the contributions of its sworn staff.
Responsibilities
- Enforce state and local public safety and welfare laws
- Respond to and address violations of the law that occur on or around school facilities
- Investigate, document, and report violations of the law and incidents related to school facilities and students
- Employ Restorative Justice and Procedural Justice concepts
- Participate in student threat/risk assessments
- Coordinate and manage school drills such as lockdowns and fire drills
- Communicate safety/security issues to school administration
- Provide staff and student training on safety/security issues
- Conduct school facility security assessments with District staff
- Address school campus-related traffic concerns
Requirements
- Minimum of five (5) years full-time experience as a patrol officer
- Minimum of two (2) additional years of full-time experience as a School Resource Officer for a full-service law enforcement agency
- Colorado P.O.S.T. Peace Officer's Certification
- At least 21 years old
- A valid Colorado driver's license
- A High School Diploma or GED or high school equivalency certificate
- Basic School Resource Officer Certification
- Bilingual language skills or American Sign Language skills preferred
- Associate's Degree or at least 60 semester hours or the equivalent from an accredited institution

- Ability to communicate and problem solve effectively

Benefits
The department offers a five-year assignment with possible extensions up to an additional five years based on department needs. Starting pay may be commensurate with the applicant’s years of service with their current agency.
Pay
Starting pay may be commensurate with the applicant’s years of service with their current agency. For example, if an applicant has five (5) years of service with their current agency, they may be eligible to start at step E; currently $115,798 annually.
