About the Role

This position measures and interprets the intellectual, adaptive, academic, social, and emotional development of children. It involves interpreting psychological study results, applying state and federal codes, and developing strategies and interventions to address the special education needs of eligible students. The role requires collaboration with school staff to meet student needs.

Responsibilities

• Administers standardized and/or supplemental assessments to measure intellectual, adaptive, academic, social, and emotional development and determine eligibility for services in compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Assesses students' functional capabilities and home/classroom environments to determine functional levels and develop recommendations or placement.
• Chairs the Child Study Team.
• Collaborates with staff to prevent and manage crises and other situations.
• Communicates with students, parents, teachers, and other personnel to evaluate situations, solve problems, respond to referrals, and resolve conflicts.
• Compiles information from various sources (e.g., teachers, nurses, probation officers, mental health agencies) to produce comprehensive evaluation reports in compliance with guidelines.
• Consults with teachers, parents, and other personnel to provide requested information, develop service plans, and make recommendations.
• Coordinates with community agencies (e.g., medical, judicial, social services) to determine appropriate treatments for specific student needs.
• Counsels students, parents, and guardians to enhance student success in school.
• Develops behavior intervention plans, curriculum modifications, and treatment programs.
• Facilitates meetings and processes to meet curriculum guidelines and state mandates.
• Implements school-wide program development and evaluation (e.g., crisis intervention services) to assist children with physical, mental, social, or emotional difficulties.
• Interprets data from various sources to assist school teams in decision-making.
• Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate student behavior to assist in modifying behavior and developing successful interpersonal skills.
• Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars to convey or gather required information.
• Prepares written materials (e.g., evaluation reports, correspondence, memos, behavior intervention plans, Medicaid billings, documentation) to document activities and provide references.
• Researches resources and methods (e.g., intervention techniques, assessment tools, community resources) to determine appropriate approaches for addressing students' functional goals.
• Supervises interns, practicum students, and others to monitor performance, provide professional growth, and achieve curriculum objectives.
