School of Social Work Lecturer Pool 2026-2027
About the Role
The School of Social Work in the College of Health and Human Services at San Diego State University is accepting applications for their lecturer pool. Temporary appointments may be either full- or part-time, often made just prior to the start of the academic term, requiring availability on short notice.
The Fall term runs from mid-August to late-December, and the Spring term from mid-January to mid-May. Summer session teaching opportunities may also be available. Initial appointments are typically one semester or one academic year, renewable contingent on satisfactory evaluations and continuing availability of work.
We welcome applications from prospective temporary faculty with expertise or experience in the following areas:
- Social Work Direct/Clinical Practice (including motivational interviewing and other treatment modalities)
- Social Work Administration
- Macro Practice (including policy, administration, management, organizations, and community development)
- Social Work Research and Evaluation
- Social Work: Health, Mental/Behavioral Health, Substance Use and Addiction
- Children, Youth, Families
- Gerontology, Aging, Older Adults
Qualifications
- Graduate degree in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited MSW program (required for teaching social work practice courses and highly preferred for other teaching areas)
- At least two years of post-Masters related experience
- Demonstrated currency in subject matter
- University teaching experience preferred
- Demonstrated experience in and/or commitment to teaching and working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and members of underrepresented groups
Pay
Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:
- Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677
- Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224
- Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523
- Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211
Most new appointees are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank and placed at the beginning of the range.
