School of Art and Design - Design Lecturer Pool 2026-2027
San Diego State University’s School of Art and Design invites applications for its part-time lecturer pool. Candidates with expertise in Digital Media, Graphic Design, Typography, User-Experience/User-Interface Design, or Visual Communication are encouraged to apply. Temporary appointments may be full- or part-time and are typically made on short notice prior to the start of an academic term.
About the role
Initial appointments are usually one semester or one academic year, renewable based on satisfactory evaluations and continued availability of work. Applications remain active in the pool for the academic year in which they are submitted.
The Fall term runs mid-August to late December; the Spring term runs mid-January to mid-May. Summer-session teaching opportunities may also be available.
Qualifications
- Degree in Digital Media, Graphic Design, Typography, User-Experience/User-Interface Design, Visual Communication, or a related field (Ph.D., M.F.A., M.A., B.F.A., or B.A. with terminal degree preferred)
- University teaching experience
- Demonstrated currency in subject matter
- Professional activity in the field
Pay
Initial rank and salary are determined by professional experience and educational background. As of July 2024, the monthly salary ranges are:
- Lecturer A: $5,507 – $6,677
- Lecturer B: $6,221 – $13,224
- Lecturer C: $6,825 – $14,523
- Lecturer D: $8,593 – $15,211
Most new appointees are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank and placed at the beginning of the range.
