About the role

Knowledge Road is hiring NYS‑licensed Occupational Therapists to work as school‑based occupational therapists on a 1099 basis in Brooklyn. The company holds a New York City DOE contract to provide IEP‑ and IESP‑mandated services to students who attend independent, parochial and charter schools across the borough, as well as some homeschooled students. These placements are not in DOE public schools.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver occupational therapy aligned to each student's IEP or IESP goals
  • Support each student's participation in school and daily activities
  • Keep session notes and complete required documentation
  • Complete progress reports as required
  • Communicate with the school, the family and the student's team
  • Attend IEP meetings for the students you work with
  • Before accepting a case, review the details (school, grade, schedule, group size, hourly rate) and decide whether to take it
  • Submit session records at the end of each month for payment

Requirements

  • Current New York State license as an Occupational Therapist
  • Availability to work in Brooklyn
  • Not have been employed by the NYC Department of Education within the past year (special approval required if you have)
  • Willingness to undergo DOE clearance as part of onboarding (handled by Knowledge Road)
  • Ability to indicate your license status, DOE clearance status, availability, preferred work areas, and languages spoken in the application

Pay

Occupational therapy cases are one‑to‑one at a rate of $75 per hour. You submit your sessions at the end of each month and are paid by direct deposit, generally within about a week. Payment is made only for sessions actually delivered.

Schedule

There is no minimum caseload, no exclusivity requirement, and no cap on hours from Knowledge Road — your workload depends on how many cases you choose to accept. Most cases occur during the school day in Brooklyn schools, with some after‑school and occasional weekend sessions. The specific openings vary throughout the year, and Knowledge Road recruits year‑round, informing you of available cases when you apply.
