School Nutrition Services Manager

Supervises and manages the daily operations of the school cafeteria, implementing Child Nutrition Programs in accordance with District 214 policies, procedures, and budget constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Train, supervise, direct, motivate, discipline, and evaluate employees while fostering a positive team environment.
  • Control food, labor, and other costs within established budgets.
  • Maintain high standards of sanitation and safety per HACCP principles, State of Illinois, and Local Health Department regulations.
  • Train staff in food preparation, sanitation, customer service, and safe equipment use.
  • Prepare daily food production and work rotation schedules.
  • Develop a la carte and catering menu ideas; monitor and ensure the success of a la carte, catering, and vending programs.
  • Maintain accurate records, including Profit and Loss statements, production sheets, inventories, food and supply orders, and attendance records.
  • Promote positive public relations between the cafeteria and other school departments (e.g., attend school operations meetings).
  • Ensure cafeteria personnel provide courteous and helpful service to students and staff.
  • Actively promote and market the food service program.
  • Attend monthly meetings with other cafeteria managers and the Director of Food Service.
  • Participate in professional development meetings as scheduled.
  • Coordinate and supervise the summer school food service program as needed.
  • Oversee catered events, which may include evenings and weekends.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Food Services and Food Service Supervisor.
  • As a working manager, assist staff with food preparation, serving, inventory management, and cleaning as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of management experience in a large-scale commercial or institutional food service operation (preferred).
  • Degree from an accredited college in dietetics, hospitality, or culinary management (preferred).
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Department of Public Health Food Service Sanitation License.
  • Experience in food production.
  • Ability to cross-train employees on all kitchen positions.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with parents, students, teachers, administrators, and food service administration via in-person, email, and phone.

Pay

Supervisory Salary Range: $56,147.00 – $70,184.00

Schedule

195-day contract assignment. Effective date of appointment: August 10, 2026.
