About the role
The Certified School Nurse at Eisenhower Schools reports directly to the Principal and Director of Student Services.
Responsibilities
- Plan and consult with teachers, counselors, administrators, psychologists, and other school personnel regarding the needs of individual students.
- Collaborate with administration, instructional staff, and parents on health concerns.
- Participate in meetings with other nursing staff and recommend modifications to the school program for students needing changes due to health deficits.
- Coordinate vision and hearing screenings, referrals, and follow-ups.
- Alert administration about relevant policies and legal provisions related to the school health program.
- Supervise the maintenance of health records and enforce state requirements regarding immunization compliance and physical education.
- Counsel students, parents, and staff on health matters, serving as a liaison between home, school, community health agencies, and the private medical sector.
- Participate in multidisciplinary staff conferences and annual reviews.
- Supervise and administer first aid as needed.
- Report suspected cases of child abuse and neglect.
- Participate in school registration activities to ensure compliance with state mandates.
- Provide annual inservices for staff on topics such as blood borne pathogens.
- Maintain and submit records for Medicaid reimbursement.
- Control and report communicable diseases, observe and report unsafe conditions, and participate in the formation of the medication policy.
- Supervise and direct the administration of medication.
- Communicate effectively with students and parents, assist in crisis management, serve on the student support team, identify and assess students' health problems, make referrals, and provide health counseling.
- Make home visits as necessary to work with parents and students.
- Communicate and work with appropriate support personnel, other staff members, and administrators, sharing ideas, materials, and methods with colleagues.
- Attend and participate in scheduled staff development meetings, department meetings, and professional projects as directed by the Director of Student Services.
- Adhere to school regulations and board policies, responding appropriately to concerns initiated by parents/guardians, completing duties effectively and promptly, maintaining regular attendance and punctuality, and following the Teachers' Handbook and District Policy Manual.
- Achieve continuing professional development units (CPDUs) as mandated by the State of Illinois.
