About the role
The Indiana School for the Blind & Visually Impaired (ISBVI) is a critical resource for Indiana's children who are blind or have low vision. The School educates hundreds of children and young adults ranging from 3 to 22 years old each year.
Responsibilities
- Prioritize and organize the daily care of patients
- Make care assignments and assist in developing treatment plans in collaboration with other clinical staff
- Direct support staff to coordinate workflow and communicate problems to unit supervisors
- Complete required documentation of nursing notes, transfer forms, and other records to ensure accurate and timely reporting
- Provide orientation and support to staff on the unit
- Provide ongoing assessment and documentation of individuals' physical and psychosocial status from admission to discharge to inform care decisions
- Administer medications and treatments according to facility policies and procedures
- Develop and implement nursing care plans for diagnosis or treatment plan changes to adapt to evolving needs
- Complete medication administration supervision monitors and clinical observation notes for support staff
- Educate individuals and family members regarding medication, procedures, and treatment goals and objectives
- Respond and intervene in emergency situations and with agitated individuals to maintain safety and therapeutic environment
- Ensure proper safety and infection control standards are met for the unit to protect staff and individuals
Requirements
- Aceptable Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Indiana
- CPR certification
- Current behavioral intervention training applicable to the assigned setting
Qualifications
- A minimum of an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited college
- Ability to understand and apply medical and facility terminology
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret nursing and facility policies and procedures
- Effective interpersonal skills, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to serve as a patient advocate
- Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations and maintain composure under pressure
- Ability to support individuals with behavioral or emotional needs
- Proficiency in computer skills and ability to learn programs used in maintaining electronic medical records
- Ability to use MS Office applications and electronic patient records
