Duties And Responsibilities
- Assist the school administrators in developing a school health program
- Conduct school programs of immunization, physical examinations, and sight and hearing testing as directed by the nurse practitioner
- Observe students on a regular basis to detect health needs
- Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all students
- Report to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters, as directed by the nurse practitioner
- Assume authority for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered an injury or emergency illness
- Administer first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures
- Make recommendations on health needs of individual students
- Assist school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools
- Lead and attend staff meetings/trainings as applicable; serve on staff committees
Qualifications
- Education Level: Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred
- Certification: Other Requirements: 2 years of clinical experience preferred
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear
- The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms using equipment such as a keyboard and video display terminal
- The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, reach, crouch or crawl
- The employee must regularly lift and move up to 35 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision
Work Environment
- The work environment is not a standard office setting; but rather encompasses the entire active school campus both inside and outside the facilities
- The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate and occasionally high
