Maintain Health Records
- Participate in the establishment and updating of student medical records yearly and as needed.
- Review parents' uploaded medical documents in Magnus Health. Update information throughout the year.
- Contact parents for clarification of any health issues if necessary.
- Maintain on file a current, complete Georgia Certificate of Immunization (Form 3231) for each student.
- Prepare for yearly audit by State Immunization Board.
- Review Health Care Plans for students with diagnosed health conditions before each new school year.
- Disseminate information from care plans to faculty.
- Maintain daily log of clinic visits by utilizing Magnus Health.
- Email parents when appropriate.
- Maintain check-in log for all Schedule II medications (for treatment of ADD/ADHD).
- Provide cafeteria staff with list of all students with life-threatening food allergies.
Daily Interaction with Students, Faculty and Parents
- Carry communication radio and be ready to respond to all on-campus emergencies.
- Contact 911 and parents as needed.
- Determine the health needs of students by means of nursing assessment and initiating interventions as necessary.
- Provide health education and first aid services to students, faculty, and staff who are ill or injured.
- Administer medication (both routine and as needed) to students, while monitoring for and documenting effectiveness or adverse reactions.
- Monitor students with chronic health conditions (diabetes, asthma, severe allergies, etc.) and participate in the planning and implementation of a care plan to address these students with special health care needs.
- Notify parents of injuries and significant events.
Support to Teachers and Staff
- Communicate with principals concerning major health issues of students in their grade level at the beginning of each school year.
- Attend meetings with teachers and/or parents as necessary regarding any student health issues.
- Prepare first aid folders and bags for teachers to take with them on their class field trips.
- Serve as the school nurse on overnight school retreats or summer camps when required.
- Be available to assess employee health conditions and refer to physician, Urgent Care or ER as indicated.
- Maintain confidential log of all faculty visits via Magnus Health.
- Refer to human resource coordinator for Worker’s Compensation issues.
- Attend school faculty and staff meetings.
General Counsel
- Inventorize needed supplies for the school infirmary and send the list to the director of purchasing.
- Organize medication so that each student’s medicine is clearly labeled and stored in such a way as to have quick access.
- For reportable infectious diseases, contact the County Health Department.
- Include health-related information in the weekly parent emails (sent by communications staff).
Continual Learning
- Maintain and continue to develop knowledge of pediatric and adolescent growth, development, and health issues through seminars, updates, in-services, and job experience.
Clean Clinic
- Maintain a clean clinic, which includes sanitizing cots/surfaces and laundering any used or soiled linens.
