Responsibilities
- Provide direct healthcare services, such as first aid, illness treatment, and emergency care to students
- Prepare health assessment on students
- Identify health problems, make referrals for diagnosis and treatment, develop educational modifications, provide follow-up and evaluation, and maintain appropriate documentation
- Counsel and follow-up services to students with disabilities as delineated in the IEP/504
- Initiate, encourage, and participate in health education programs for children
- Provide health counseling to parents of students with health conditions, and provide individual and group health counseling to students with health conditions
- Develop the medication protocol to safely store, administer, document, and monitor the effectiveness of the medication given at school
- Cookout activities of local schools concerned with communicable disease regulations
- Aid with the State and Federal mandated screenings and provides follow-up for deficits in vision, hearing, growth and development, and other physical impairment
Requirements (minimum)
- Associate's Degree in Nursing
- CPR certified
- Valid Illinois nursing license (Certification as a school nurse OR begins certification process once hired)
Physical Demands
Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 50% walking, and 40% standing.
