School Nurse

Responsibilities

• Provide direct healthcare services, such as first aid, illness treatment, and emergency care to students
• Prepare health assessment on students
• Identify health problems, make referrals for diagnosis and treatment, develop educational modifications, provide follow-up and evaluation, and maintain appropriate documentation
• Counsel and follow-up services to students with disabilities as delineated in the IEP/504
• Initiate, encourage, and participate in health education programs for children
• Provide health counseling to parents of students with health conditions, and provide individual and group health counseling to students with health conditions
• Develop the medication protocol to safely store, administer, document, and monitor the effectiveness of the medication given at school
• Cookout activities of local schools concerned with communicable disease regulations
• Aid with the State and Federal mandated screenings and provides follow-up for deficits in vision, hearing, growth and development, and other physical impairment

Requirements (minimum)

• Associate's Degree in Nursing
• CPR certified
• Valid Illinois nursing license (Certification as a school nurse OR begins certification process once hired)

Physical Demands

Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 50% walking, and 40% standing.
