Springfield, MA – $200,000 annual salary – Day-one health benefits

About the role

Alpha is opening a new Springfield campus and seeks a leader who knows this city's educational challenges firsthand. This is not a traditional Principal position. You will lead a team of 15+ Guides who coach and motivate students while Alpha's EdTech platform delivers all instruction. No teaching. All leadership. Your role is to enforce rigorous standards, make data-informed decisions, and build Springfield's best school from the ground up. Your objective: guarantee that every student loves coming to school, learns at twice the pace of traditional classrooms, and develops essential life skills. If you're frustrated by a system that prevents you from upholding the standards Springfield students deserve, this role offers a different path. Lead with data. Coach for excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Launch Alpha's Springfield, MA campus: From day one, deliver Alpha's three promises to 100+ students with operational excellence across all functions.
  • Facilitate live life-skills workshops for K-8 students: Lead engaging one-hour sessions covering public speaking, growth mindset, and giving and receiving feedback. Execute Alpha's playbook to ensure students master critical skills traditional schools overlook while enjoying the process.
  • Drive every student to 100% goal achievement: Develop individualized motivational approaches for each student. Apply data-driven methods to address resistance and sustain engagement with the Alpha platform. Success is defined by every student meeting their targets.
  • Coach Guides to excellence and maintain Alpha's quality standards: Leverage data to pinpoint performance gaps, provide actionable feedback, and monitor progress. Make difficult decisions when performance does not meet expectations and model the standard you expect on campus.
  • Lead campus operations through data-driven decision-making: Evaluate performance across staffing, operations, parent engagement, and culture. Identify issues, perform root cause analysis, consult with stakeholders, and implement measurable changes. Monitor each decision and refine based on outcomes.

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Teaching or tutoring students. Students learn via Alpha's self-guided EdTech platform, not through passive instruction from adults.
  • Creating lesson plans or curriculum. Alpha's playbook is already built. You are responsible for execution and leadership, not instructional design.
  • Overseeing budgets or recruiting staff. Central teams manage finance and hiring. Your focus is exclusively on campus performance and culture.
  • Serving as the subject-matter expert. This role is 80% leader and entertainer, 20% educator. You inspire; the platform instructs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Business, or related field. Master's preferred.
  • At least 7 years of experience in education, learning and development, coaching, business, or related field.
  • Direct experience building and managing teams of at least 15 people with full hiring and firing authority.
  • Deep knowledge of the Springfield, MA education landscape. Experience working with youth ages 5 - 14.
  • Strong data analysis skills and experience using metrics to drive decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Passion for transforming education. Belief that the traditional system is fundamentally broken.
  • Startup mindset: thrives under pressure, adaptable in new situations, comfortable building systems from scratch.
  • Compelling and energetic speaker who commands attention from rooms full of students or staff.
  • Able to relate to K-8 students, understand their interests and culture, and serve as a positive role model.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
