About the role

Bedford Public Schools is seeking a part-time School Crossing Guard for morning and/or afternoon shifts. The Crossing Guard directs vehicular and pedestrian traffic at assigned crossings to protect school children and ensure orderly movement of traffic.

The successful candidate must be able to work outside in a variety of weather and temperature conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Report directly to assigned crossing stations.
  • Be on time, properly uniformed, and equipped.
  • Remain at the crossing station until the conclusion of the assignment.
  • Ensure children use proper crossing locations and that no children are in the street while traffic is moving.
  • Be alert for present or potential traffic hazards in the area surrounding assigned crossings.
  • Submit a written report of any hazards to the Safety Officer with recommendations for remedial steps.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • CPR certification (training provided by the department).
  • Familiarity with applicable Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations for directing traffic is a plus.

Schedule

  • Morning shift: 10 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7:15 am to 9:15 am.
  • Afternoon shift: 10 hours per week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and Wednesday, 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm.

Pay

$22–25 per hour. This position is not eligible for benefits.
