About the role

This position provides support to students, counselors, administration, and teachers. It involves providing counseling, conducting pre-vocational and career awareness programs, maintaining records, and participating in various committees.

Responsibilities

  • Supports students with learning, physical, social, and emotional concerns through conferences.
  • Provides planned pre-vocational and career awareness programs.
  • Consults and arranges conferences with appropriate school personnel, community agencies, and parents.
  • Maintains current information regarding community services for information and referral purposes.
  • Collaborates on the development of the counseling program.
  • Coordinates programs and special events related to the counseling program.
  • Supports the transition of students into the school and rising 6th graders into middle school.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the guidance and counseling program.
  • Provides parent education opportunities.
  • Participates on the school's child study committee, as needed.
  • Plans and implements classroom guidance and group counseling sessions.
  • Administers mandated testing programs, as needed.
  • Participates on the school crisis team.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university and completion of an approved school guidance and counseling program.
  • Two (2) years of successful full-time teaching experience or two years of successful experience in guidance and counseling.
  • Completed specialized studies in elementary school counseling.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of child development and growth stages, English grammar and usage, individual and group counseling techniques, and classroom guidance.
  • Ability to relate positively to students, parents, and community representatives.
  • Knowledge of American Counseling Association ethical standards and guidelines.

Skills

  • Appropriate use of written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to assess student needs and develop appropriate strategies for intervention.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment to meet goals.
  • Ability to organize and perform work independently.
  • Ability to meet deadlines for all work even when working on multiple projects.
  • Sustained effort and enthusiasm in quality and quantity of work.

Pay

The salary grade is Teacher Salary Scale, and the work calendar is a 200-day, non-exempt schedule.
