School Counselor

Qualifications

• 3-5 years' experience working with middle and high school students in an independent school or general professional setting
• Strong communication and customer service skills with an emphasis on patience and professionalism
• Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines
• Ability to build and strengthen positive relationships among students, parents, and educators
• Work independently and know how to use appropriate resources as needed
• Possess a high degree of professionalism, integrity, confidentiality and initiative; Pro-active individual that will be able to respond quickly and positively to all manners of situations with poise and quiet efficiency
• Quick study/proactive/willingness to ask questions and push initiatives forward
• Experience working with data and generating database reports, record keeping software, and strong proficiency with Google Docs and Excel
• Maintain confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential
• Demonstrated excellent writing, oral communication and presentation skills
• Be well versed and implement requirements of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
• Follow Geffen Academy and UCLA policies, procedures, school handbooks' requirements and protocols

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

• Master's Degree in Counseling/Guidance, Psychology, or Social Work or equivalent combination of education and experience

Special Conditions for Employment

• Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
• Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment.
• Age Requirement: Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired.
• TB Test: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory TB test.
• CANRA: The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA. The employee must sign the "Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse."
