About the role

The role of School Counselor at IDEA Public Schools leads the campus family engagement vision, social emotional learning program, and coordination of mental health and counseling supports for all scholars on the campus. Key tenets of family engagement, social emotional learning, and student social emotional supports are implemented through this role to ensure all staff are building authentic relationships with students and families.

Responsibilities

  • Led the execution of the school vision for retaining all students at the school by directing and managing all stakeholders at the campus in their roles and responsibilities in family engagement and student persistence.
  • Provides individual/group counseling for at-risk students and refers students who need intense or specialized services to licensed mental health providers and/or outside agencies.
  • Leads the planning and execution of student and family engagement events that align with the school’s culture, community, and family needs, promoting authentic relationships between the school and the family.
  • Holds the entire campus team accountable to fulfill their roles in family engagement and ensures data accuracy and reporting through partnerships with the PEIMS team.
  • Supports teachers in addressing the social/emotional needs of students in the classroom and provides feedback, training, and coaching.
  • Maintains knowledge of community agencies as a resource to meet student and school needs and directs the implementation of state-mandated guidance lessons.
  • Conducts individual and group check-ins and advising meetings with students to address social-emotional issues and provide campus-based supports.
  • Administers parent surveys and student surveys to gather feedback and implement strategic plans based on parent and student input.
  • Ensures all new students and families receive high-quality on-boarding starting on day one of school, leading the planning and execution of specific new parent events and addressing concerns of the newest families.
  • Manages attendance data, identifies barriers to attendance, and supports students and families in accessing community resources.
  • Trains and implements the Move This World curriculum with fidelity, conducting regular observations and providing feedback to teachers.
  • Facilitates 4 Family Engagement Events per quarter, ensuring parent and student completion expectations are met and participating in bullying prevention and mental health awareness activities.
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders to meet district expectations for successful implementation of family engagement and social emotional learning priorities.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in School counseling, counseling, administration, or related field.
  • Previous experience in a school or school setting.
  • Valid School Counselor Certification or Mental Health Provider License (Clinical Social Worker Intern, LCSW, LCSW-S, LMHC, LMHC Intern, LMFT-A, LMFT, School Counselor).

Pay

Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $60,569 and $72,683, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity.

This role is full-time and requires a significant amount of flexibility to meet the needs of the school community.
