School Bus Mechanic
About the role
You will perform repair work and maintenance for buses. Your responsibilities include routine and preventive maintenance such as oil changes and tune-ups, repairing or replacing malfunctioning parts and systems like brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts. You will also perform tests on specific parts and systems to ensure proper function, examine critical parts and systems using a standard checklist, identify mechanical issues through visual inspection or with computer diagnostic equipment, and test drive vehicles to confirm safe and proper operation.
Responsibilities
- Routine and preventive maintenance including oil changes and tune-ups
- Repairing or replacing malfunctioning parts and systems such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts
- Performing tests on specific parts and systems to ensure proper function
- Examining critical parts and systems using a standard checklist
- Identifying mechanical issues either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment
- Testing drive vehicles to confirm safe and proper operation
- Planning timetables to complete such repairs and maintenance
Requirements
- Knowledge of mechanical repair skills
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read service and repair manuals
- Proficiency with computer diagnostic equipment, hydraulics, and software
- Vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship in auto repair or related field required
- Two plus years of related experience
- A commercial driver's license
Qualifications
- State inspection license / hydraulics
- Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and safety inspections
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times
