School Bus Driver

About the role

Crescent Academy is seeking a reliable and experienced Bus Driver to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for transporting students safely and efficiently to their destinations. Crescent Academy serves over 500 students in grades PreK-12th and believes in a whole-child approach, supporting students and families to improve outcomes through strong character, academic achievement, and civic engagement. Students from diverse cultural backgrounds attend the academy.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe transportation for and maintain order amongst all assigned students
• Responsible for all aspects of bus safety and maintenance
• Adhere to traffic laws and regulations while driving
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance
• Maintain a clean and orderly bus interior
• Report any accidents, incidents, or mechanical issues to the appropriate authorities
• Follow company policies and procedures
• Perform inspections of the bus before and after each route
• Attend safety meetings as required

Cognitive Demands

• Supervise and account for multiple students at once
• Recall and communicate important safety information and protocols
• Inspect bus safety features and maintain emergency evacuation procedures
• Plan and execute routine bus maintenance
• Follow a scheduled routine that involves early mornings and occasional evenings
• Apply sound reasoning to provide solutions to situations
• Demonstrate effective oral and written communication
• Possess knowledge of all traffic laws, bus equipment, and their functions
• Maintain knowledge of first aid procedures

Physical Demands

• Assist students on and off the bus as needed
• Occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 lbs
• Stand and walk frequently
• Walk up and down stairs
• Sit on a bus for long periods of time
• Withstand all outside weather conditions at any time of year
• Tolerate moderate to loud noise levels

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Valid CDL with school bus endorsement
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Must pass a background check and drug test
• Excellent driving skills and knowledge of traffic laws and regulations
• Good communication and customer service skills
