School Based Mental Health Counselor

About the role
The Mental Health Therapist works under the supervision of the Clinical Director and respective counselor supervisor. The primary job function is to conduct individual, group, and family therapies, coordinating various types of clinical mental health activities. The counselor performs diagnostic and assessment procedures based on qualifications and abilities, and other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Conducts daily individual, group, and/or family counseling sessions with clients.
- Performs various diagnostic, assessment, and treatment planning procedures (based on qualifications and abilities) in accordance with ODMH/ODADAS/CARF standards.
- Coordinates various clinical activities and assists in monitoring care to ensure compliance with agency policies.
- Makes necessary reports to counselor supervisor and/or Clinical Director regarding staff treatment of clients.
- Attends regularly scheduled executive committee meetings and treatment staffing with prepared reports that accurately represent client’s response to treatment.
- Serves on various committees for Quality Assurance and may chair select committees as directed by Leadership and Clinical Director.
- Conducts in-service training as assigned.
- Maintains contact with family members/guardians, referral sources, and authorized outside sources regarding client treatment activities/progress.
- Maintains documentation relative to caseload and program function.
- Meets with representatives from outside agencies (local Mental Health Boards, potential referral sources, state agencies) for marketing, survey/audit, or informational purposes.
- Adequate knowledge and ability to navigate EHR (Electronic Health Record) system.
- Assumes additional duties as assigned by Clinical Director or Counseling Supervisor.
Requirements
- Licensure: LSW, LISW, LPC, or LPCC.
- Experience working with adolescents, teens, and adults with a mental health diagnosis or relevant mental health work history is preferred.
- Interpersonal skills to interact professionally with employees, physicians, providers, patients, and families.
- Essential technical/motor skills: organizational skills, writing, speaking clearly, answering telephone, fine dexterity, handling, and gripping.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide age-specific care, including principles of growth and development over the life span.
- Proven competency with MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Adaptability in a challenging and dynamic environment; ability to work well in a matrixed organizational structure.
- Satisfactory references from employers and/or professional peers.
- Satisfactory criminal background check and drug screen.
