About the role
The School Age Assistant position involves supervising children, planning activities, and maintaining a clean, safe environment. This role also includes communicating with parents and participating in professional development.
Responsibilities
- Supervise children, group, and activities
- Provide daily care including feeding and social/emotional support
- Implement positive behavior management techniques
- Plan and participate in classroom activities
- Document children's progress and development
- Communicate with co-workers, administration, and parents
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of the facility
- Complete required program documentation
- Attend and participate in family nights, activities, and trainings
Requirements
- At least 18 years old
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One of the following qualifications:
- Three credits from a regionally accredited college or university in relevant fields
- 45 clock hours of quality-assured training
- 15 clock hours of quality-assured training
- Qualification as an Early Childhood Assistant Teacher
- Physical & tuberculosis screening
- Criminal history, child abuse & adult abuse background check
- Proficient active listening skills
- Patient and compassionate demeanor
- Ability to provide activities for healthy development
- Control and maintain classroom discipline
- Supportive and caring environment for children
- Mentally and physically capable of caring for a large group of children
Qualifications
- Four years older than any child in direct care
- Experience working or volunteering with youth in a group setting
- Positive relationships with people from different backgrounds
- Flexibility and willingness to accommodate the needs of the early childhood community
- Ability to develop and present educational programs/workshops
- Knowledge of early childhood education programs and techniques
- Knowledge of child development theory and practice
- Awareness of unique needs of young children and appropriate expectations of their abilities
