About the Role

Under the supervision of the School Age Site Coordinator, the Group Leader will assist in supervising the program and ensuring a safe, healthy, and constructive environment for all children involved. The Group Leader will uphold the employee code of conduct and ensure all job responsibilities reflect the mission of the Old Colony Y and the regulating agency. The role emphasizes displaying and encouraging character traits of caring, responsibility, honesty, and respect.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and ensure compliance with EEC regulations and Old Colony Y policies (Child and Youth Care Policy, Child Guidance Policy, Health Care Policy).
  • Assist with planning, developing, and implementing the program curriculum in accordance with EEC regulations and Old Colony YMCA’s policies.
  • Assist with daily activities, including but not limited to: Y Chat, Asset Curriculum, BOKS, and Fun/Food Curriculum.
  • Maintain proper behavior of children at all times, adhering to the YMCA Child Guidance Policy and Child Care Policy.
  • Assist with Fun/Food Curriculum, ensuring menu planning and guidelines meet HEPA standards.
  • Maintain QRIS standards.
  • Act in a public relations capacity when communicating with parents, school personnel, and potential clients.
  • Serve as a positive role model for children and staff.
  • Maintain attendance records and all necessary reports.
  • Meet with the School Age Site Coordinator as directed.
  • Attend weekly site staff meetings and monthly asset/school age curriculum meetings.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with school or other site-specific personnel.
  • Help ensure maximum enrollment is achieved.
  • Assist with the Annual Campaign and other fundraising events.
  • Adhere to all fiscal policies and procedures, such as purchase orders and employee expenses.
  • Ensure a clean, organized, and safe program space.
  • Communicate facility issues to appropriate staff in a timely manner.
  • Actively participate on assigned committees and in the Y’s Annual Campaign.
  • Promote Y programs through public appearances and presentations.
  • Complete at least 20 hours of childcare training annually.
  • Accept additional responsibilities as assigned to support overall operations and teamwork.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 18 years of age with at least 6 months of school-age experience.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.
  • Evidence of a physical examination within the last 12 months.
  • Negative Mantoux TB test and immunity for measles, mumps, and rubella.
  • Ability to create and sustain a culture of excellence and thrive as part of a cohesive team.
  • Ability to lift/move heavy equipment and clean when necessary (up to 75 lbs occasionally and 40 lbs frequently, including children).
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, late nights, and weekends as needed.
  • Strong oral communication skills for occasional public speaking.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, lift, and move intermittently during work hours.
  • Thorough understanding of Y-USA’s three focus areas: Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility.
