School 1:1 Classroom Support Counselor

The COVE School is a co-ed chapter 766 private special education school on a 53-acre site in scenic Plymouth, Massachusetts. Our mission is to advance every student’s academic, social, emotional, physical, and ethical development. We offer a wide range of academic, therapeutic, and vocational services to students in both day and residential programs, including culinary, landscaping, equine science, carpentry, and more.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe and secure school environment for students under the direction of the Supervisor and Principal.
• Implement the school’s therapeutic mission, treatment philosophy, and educational and behavioral support policies in direct care and supervision of students.
• Deliver individual academic and therapeutic support to students with emotional disabilities, coordinating with school staff to implement intervention strategies based on the student’s IEP, ICMP, and treatment plan.
• Engage assigned students with academic support, behavior intervention, and co-regulation strategies to maintain sustained participation in classroom activities.
• Utilize ABA supports (highly preferred) and maintain knowledge of school routines and structures.
• Participate in a classroom environment, supporting individual clients and classroom groupings in maintaining safe and appropriate participation.
• Foster healthy, appropriate relationships with students through daily interactions based on social/emotional and behavioral support goals outlined in IEP and treatment plans.
• Coordinate with teaching faculty to plan and participate in activities with students on an individual and small group (less than 8) level.
• Teach age-appropriate life skills and social skills through modeling, counseling, and other techniques.
• Assist children with transitions between scheduled school activities.
• Provide First Aid as needed and manage medical and emergency situations with the Principal.
• Maintain a safe and supportive environment, including supervision of living, dining, educational, and recreational areas.
• Provide individual and behavior support, including the use of TCI-appropriate physical restraint as necessary.
• Communicate through written and verbal means with program staff regarding student progress and challenges.
• Complete all assigned paperwork, including time sheets, daily shift communication logs, behavior data collections, and incident reporting.
• Participate in all school faculty meetings and trainings.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of childcare experience in an academic or residential setting with a similar population of children.
• Computer literate, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software applications.
• May be required to operate a vehicle, possess a valid driver’s license, and maintain a “satisfactory” driving record.
• If transporting clients, must maintain minimum liability insurance and current vehicle registration as required.

Pay

Actual compensation will be based on relevant experience, education, skills, and internal equity. Candidates with less directly related experience may be placed toward the lower end of the range, while those with extensive or specialized experience may be placed toward the higher end. Market conditions and budget considerations may also influence final pay decisions.
