About the role

Mercy Health seeks a Scheduling Specialist to join the team at Lima Medical Office Building 770 W High. This position coordinates and schedules patient testing or procedures, interacts with various healthcare providers, and ensures timely patient scheduling.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers and interprets patient data from physician offices and patients to enable scheduling of tests, surgeries, and pre-certification when needed.
  • Enters patient scheduling information into the hospital computer system, updates patient demographic and insurance information, and provides pre-registration forms.
  • Answers questions about testing, scheduling, and test preparation, and refers patients to specialty areas as necessary.
  • Checks for medical necessity during scheduling and coordinates scheduling with multiple facilities or departments to ensure outpatients are scheduled promptly.
  • Compiles and prepares statistical data as requested and resolves scheduling discrepancies and problems.
  • Works with departments to schedule stat patients and provides support in resolving issues related to patient testing and scheduling.
  • Performs administrative tasks such as filing, photocopying, and relaying data as assigned.
  • Promotes strong customer focus and handles all calls with professionalism.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Associate degree in business, healthcare, or related field (preferred)
  • Experience with data entry (preferred)
  • Typing speed of 45-50 WPM (preferred)

  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals
